School of Accountancy and Business

By: Mayvelyn R. Sicat-Covita

A group of 93 HRM and 52 Tourism second year students with 5 faculty chaperones marveled at the beauty of the country’s last frontier, Palawan: home to two of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Tubbataha Reef and the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) which was recently declared as one of the world’s 7 Wonders of Nature. This educational tour is an integrated out-of-the-classroom activity for students to personally take a glimpse and experience the real world of the broad Tourism industry, which later will become their next home after school. As stated on CMO No. 17 Series of 2012 (Section 12) on the Policies and Guidelines on Educational Tours and Fieldtrips of College and Graduate Students, an educational tour is an extended educational activity involving the travel of students and supervising faculty outside the school campus which is relatively of longer duration usually lasting for more than one day and relatively more places of destination than a field trip. Thus, the HTM department journeyed to Palawan, which majority of the students preferred for an educational tour from September 28 to October 1, 2012.

The students experienced riding on the three modes of transportation, dined on restaurants of various themes, and appreciated as well as gained new and relevant information on both man-made and natural attractions visited. This tour has likewise provided the students with the experience of dealing with people of different cultures, as well as further strengthening the good fellowship among themselves.

The faculty chaperones during the tour were: Department Head Mrs. Mayvelyn S. Covita, HTM faculty members Mr. Michael Noel A. Abiva, Mrs. Janette M. Arellano, Ms. Lovely Edelweiss B. Julian, and Mrs. Joanne Katherine F. Reyes as representative of the School of Business’ OIC, Dr. Eleanor C. Domingo.

Shown below was the itinerary of the touring group.

The student participants and the faculty-chaperones really enjoyed and had this tour as one of activities worth remembering and sharing for.
